MOTORCYCLE RIDE FOR SSFOA 2008
After checking the weather 42,000 times during the week and only seeing rain in forecast, we thought about cancelling. But the calls kept coming, people asking if we were still having it. So have it we did. I made my little speech and didn't even cry! I was so happy about that. I blubber like a baby! We also honored about 8 veterans before we left. Wonderful, caring, fabulous gentlemen! Miraculously, the moment we all got outside the rain quit.
I worked it out so that no one left or started their bikes/vehicle until I could make a special phone call to Steve and Diana. Wouldn't you know it, the phone was busy. LOL After hours and hours ( actually 1 minute) Diana answered and put the big guy on. I told him I had some people that had something to say to him and the bikes roared. It was great! Just awesome.
We had 34 people show up and we had a ball. Julie Muhle, the Wisconsin Coordinator, her daughter Liz, fellow associate Jenny Nagler, my brother and sister in law Gary and Renee Wille came in from the Wisconsin Centro. Inc. And Rebecca Bracewell came in from the North Carolina Centro Business unit.
Gary & Renee brought their Hot Rods, which you can see in the photos. They were a big hit in the small towns we went to. John, from The Sundown Lounge made us all great burgers in Williamsburg. He then turned around and gave every dime he made off of us hungry heathens right back to Silver Star Families. Unbelievable!!!
After the 90% threat of rain, remarkably it did not spit one drop of rain. Someone was praying for us... A LOT!!!!!!!!!
I will forget someone, but I really need to thank my husband for his never ending faith in my adventures. Matt and Katie Musel, Loren and Larry Phillippe, for all of their help and ideas. The wonderful riders that drove through the rain to make the ride, and for bringing over 600 personal hygiene items to be donated to the Cedar Rapids Veteran's Affairs for the standown on Sept. 19th.
Without all of the faith and support of all of these wonderful people, this would not be possible.Next year is still up in the air for me. Lots to think through. But, if I have even half of the support of the team I work with now, I am sure the show will go on.
Thanks for listening! Have a fabulous day!

Motorcycle Ride for SSFOA 2007
This ride was so extremely successful because of our friends. We are a big family and we pull together when we need things. It was a beautiful day 78 degrees and sunny. Little windy but we made it. People also brought items to donate to the Veteran's Hospital in Iowa City. This was the most popular event of the day I think. We gathered over 200 items for our Veterans! The gentleman in the last picture... we met him during our planning ride. His son was injured in Iraq. He is still recovering.

VA CHRISTMAS 2008
Jerry and I delivered to Iowa City yesterday. We took a huge box of puzzle books, checker and chess games, playing cards and poker sets, pens, writing tablets, note cards, socks etc. We weren't allowed to give them out. The volunteer, Joan, was going to package the stuff up for them.
