SILVER STAR DAY WAS A GREAT SUCCESS IN GEORGIA

We went and the Governor presented two Silver Star Banners to a wounded Air Force Vet and a wounded Army Vet.

In the pictures are: Lt. Col (Ret USAF) Mike Ross with his wife and two children, SGT. O'Neal Thompson and his wife and me.

Also included is the picture of the Governor presenting O'Neal with his banner and coin in a little case with a mini banner I made up.

We were able to send two veterans and their families to the Braves game last night, with Trish's help!

Getting ok's took awhile so we are starting the planning process for next year this week. I am sending out requests and invitations.

We got a Proclamation signed by the City of Milton and it reads the same as the one from the Governor's office.

I went to lunch yesterday with some friends from work and we were seated next to three Army men having lunch. They were not wounded vets but I bought their lunch anyway.

Hope everyone had a great day

SSFOA Representative, Trish Benefield, met with Marie Gordon and Andrew Billings of Senator Isakson's Office concerning the Proclamation to make our flag the State Flag for the wounded. (right photo)

Recently, Trish attended the opening of the new VA Rome Outreach Clinic in Rome, Georgia.

The ceremony was absolutely fantastic. Many Veterans  came and Trish had a great visit and heard stories from one gentleman from WWII who was in a wheel chair and had a leg prostheses and his daughter.

Trish presented a framed Certificate and Flag to Congressman Gingrey's Assistant

A local Judge gave the Introductions of each and every speaker, etc.   He's Lt., US Naval Reserves, VietNam Veteran................The Atlanta VA Police Honor Guard presented the Colors.

A local High School Band (Coosa High School) provided the music.  The ceremony was held outside under a huge tent, with the reception following inside the Clinic.  Our Georgia Department of Veterans Service Commissioner, Pete Wheeler, was in attendance, and has served for over 58 years - he's in his 80s, and a Veteran himself!  As the band played each song for every branch of service, the Veterans from the particular branch they were playing for would stand up in the crowd!! (Wonderful crowd!!)

I handed out some of my "Thank You" cards to the Veterans, and they were veryappreciative.......
you could see the emotion on their faces.
What a great day!
