Our day started nice and early. We were at the War Veterans Home at 7:30 this morning and had breakfast with the residents there. Only 7 in the home right now. Five were eating and 1 is bed bound and 1 is in the hospital. But my oh my what a group this five is!
Dear Mr Porter kept me going and I loved listening to him and Mr Jackson fussing at each other. Mr Jackson told him he kept him up all night with the TV being too loud. (they are not even in the same room!)
After that Kathy and her son Dallas arrived and we started getting everything set up. At 8:30 Kathy introduced Lynn who was there to represent Mayor Walker from Bossier. He read the proclamation and then we presented the home with a flag and gift bags for the residents. We all enjoyed some fellowship and we had a few of the nurses to sign up to be members (will be sending all that to National)
We also presented Mr Jones with a banner. He was sad and read with great interest the brochure during breakfast. He told me, you know I had Malaria does that qualify! Well YEAH He was so tickled at the banner! We had also carried them pillows that one of the ladies that has always done sewing for the troops made and they LOVED them.
We gave them the autographed books that National sent and they have books and more books coming in everyday from the request that Maria sent out! They are so excited about all of these books.
After talking to each of the men we loaded up and headed off to the VA.
Kathy, Dallas and I passed out ribbons and gave out cookies and passed out pamplets and visited for over 4 hours! Then the Chief of Staff came to talk to us and Kathy presented him with a banner for the VA. (they are wanting a flag to fly out front!) Made LOTS of contacts. Got a volunteer package and plan on making more visits.
I watched the King of Popcorn pop over 50 lbs of popcorn!!
